Graphitype printing, an environmentally friendly printing service, is now offering "Greenchoice", allowing your business to offset your printing carbon footrpint.
Graphitype has enlisted the aid of “The Carbon Reduction Institute” to calculate our total emissions footprint, audit our environmental initiatives, and calculate our carbon offset requirements. The process is now complete with our commitment to offset a minimum of 10% of our jobs in the first year and to increase that by a minimum10% each year until we are fully Co2 free. Already we are on track to far exceed our 1st year target as we inform and educate our customers. Graphitype printing is now offering a “Green Choice” whereby customers can elect to offset the carbon footprint of their printed material either universally or on a job by job basis. This takes the form of a 1-2% surcharge depending on the job which goes 100% towards the purchase of carbon credits. The credits we purchase are used in the development of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, and research and development in energy efficient technologies. We feel that the best way to reduce greenhouse gases are to not put them in the atmosphere to begin with. We understand that while re-aforestation is important it is not an effective or guaranteed method of reducing Co2 emissions as trees need to reach maturity before sequesting reasonable levels of Co2. It is also doubtful that there is enough available landmass to plant the quantity of trees needed to reduce the large amounts of Co2 emissions created worldwide. GRAPHITYPE PRINTING SERVICES“growing positive solutions” Graphitype Printing Services has for many years recognised and worked to reduce the impact that our business has on the environment. Over recent years it has become increasingly evident that climate change caused by global warming, will be one of the most pressing issues for human survival, certainly over the next 50 years. At GPS we have made a commitment to the future by implementing initiatives to reduce our carbon emissions and strive to become a “carbon neutral” company. That is, for every tonne of carbon we contribute to the atmosphere, we take actions to remove an equal quantity. We call it “growing positive solutions” The process has involved the calculation of our total climate damaging emissions, or carbon footprint. These include emissions created in the generation of the power (electricity) we consume, the harvesting and processing of the raw materials we use, as well as those created in our own manufacturing and transport processes. We then set about measuring the effect of our current environmental and recycling procedures and the implementation of new initiatives. A comprehensive outline of these procedures and policies can be found in our accompanying GPS Environmental Initiative E-Booklet. The final step in the process is offsetting, or counter-balancing the remaining carbon footprint. This takes the form of purchasing carbon credits from recognised green initiatives such as energy efficiency and renewable energy resources. These carbon credits are Government Accredited under the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme, and the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator. How can you help? There are many initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Some examples of these are the development of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, research and development in energy efficient technologies, tree planting, and even changing the traditional incandescent light bulbs in every house, to the 80% more energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL). In order for these initiatives to continue, and to be effective in reducing carbon emissions, they require funding, not only from government sources, but from business and public sources as well. GPS has decided to act now by registering our company with the Carbon Reduction Institute which offers certification to companies who offset their carbon footprint by purchasing carbon credits. The Carbon Reduction Institute uses the funds derived from carbon credits to fund initiatives that are mentioned above. GPS can now offer our clients Green Choice, which allows them to choose if they would like to make their product carbon neutral. If you choose to offset the carbon footprint of your job you will be charged a small surcharge of 1% to 2%, depending on the stock and the production process. This surcharge is used to purchase carbon credits. GPS does not profit from this surcharge. We are independently audited by the Carbon Reduction Institute each year. The Carbon Reduction Institute is also independently audited by the relevant Government Departments. GPS invites all our clients to join this exciting initiative and work towards, and invest in a stable environment for our own and future generations. Should you wish, you can promote your products to your clients with a statement from GPS certifying, “This product is Carbon Neutral”, and you are permitted to display the Green Choice logo. Download our Environmental Initiative e-booklet , and contact your Account Manager for further details and to find out about the advantages of participating in this scheme. |
