Our latest book is now CO2free™ - read on to follow the process of going carbon free.

With the help and kind support from Carbon Planet, Australian Innovation: Towards a Sustainable Future is the only CO2free™ book*.

As promoters of sustainability, it was imperative that we erased the carbon footprint of this book and lead by example.

Before any offsetting began, the following measures were taken to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the book:

  • The text was printed on Revive Silk, and Australian made recycled paper by Australian Paper
  • The cover was printed on Tudor RP 300gsm Australian-made recycled paper also produced by Australian Paper
  • Vegetable inks by Hostmann-Steinberg were used
  • The printer's of the book, National Capital Printing (NCP), have in place an Environmental Plan based on the ACT’s Government strategy of No More Waste 2010

Once the carbon footprint was reduced, the remaining emissions (that could not be eliminated) were measured and offset by Carbon Planet with an extensive audit on all of the elements that went into making this book including travel, printing, technology, equipment and services, freight and people.

Where have the carbon emissions gone?

By buying carbon credits from Carbon Planet,  the storage of carbon in trees managed as part of a carbon pool were purchased.  Trees will be planted to store the carbon that was emitted through the production of this book.  A New South Wales Greenhouse Abatement Certificate was  (NGAC) received for every tonne of carbon emitted, which guarantees that each tonne of carbon dioxide produced by the book will be kept out of the air for 100 years.

By buying the carbon credits through Carbon Planet the following is guaranteed:

  • NGAC represents one tonne of carbon dioxide stored for at least 100 years
  • Trees have been planted since 1990
  • Trees weren't planted on old growth forest cleared land
  • Should the tree from which our carbon credit originated come to any harm within 100 years of being purchased eg. fire, disease, logging, etc. then the carbon credit will be replaced immediately from another source

After the audit was completed and the emissions were officially offset, Carbon Planet provided a company account on the NSW Greenhouse Registry - www.ggas-registry.nsw.gov.au. All carbon credits accrued can be kept under watch.
