As promoters of sustainability, it was imperative that we erased the carbon footprint of this book and lead by example. Before any offsetting began, the following measures were taken to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the book:
Once the carbon footprint was reduced, the remaining emissions (that could not be eliminated) were measured and offset by Carbon Planet with an extensive audit on all of the elements that went into making this book including travel, printing, technology, equipment and services, freight and people. Where have the carbon emissions gone?By buying carbon credits from Carbon Planet, the storage of carbon in trees managed as part of a carbon pool were purchased. Trees will be planted to store the carbon that was emitted through the production of this book. A New South Wales Greenhouse Abatement Certificate was (NGAC) received for every tonne of carbon emitted, which guarantees that each tonne of carbon dioxide produced by the book will be kept out of the air for 100 years. By buying the carbon credits through Carbon Planet the following is guaranteed:
After the audit was completed and the emissions were officially offset, Carbon Planet provided a company account on the NSW Greenhouse Registry - www.ggas-registry.nsw.gov.au. All carbon credits accrued can be kept under watch.
